Department of English
The Department since its inception has been serving this zone as a unique centre for literature and language studies. It has produced many eminent scholars, teachers and successful persons in other fields. A number of ex-students of the Department have become well reputed as college teachers and school teachers in district of Bankura and adjoining districts. In the recent past, after the constitution of School Service Commission, a large number of ex-students have qualified Regional Level Selection Test (RLST) and have been appointed as school teachers. Most of the students after the completion of their Honours and General Programmes follow the P.G. Programme in English. Every year some students score first class or high second class marks. The Departmental teachers and passed out students are dedicated to their social responsibility as teachers of English Literature and Language and render their valuable service to ensure quality education in the locality.
In the 1980s the Department had a tie-up with the British Council, Kolkata. Unfortunately, due to lack of man power it has not been possible to keep up the exchange. Presently, the Department extends active assistance to Red Rose Language Institute, Midnapur, in conducting Spoken English Certificate Coursein the college. Also the Department, spanning the 1980s and 1990s, held seminars with the assistance of academicians from the University of Burdwan. Some of the experts who acted as resource persons then are Dr. Sisir Das, D.K Barua and Prof. Ashok Kumar Hui et al. The tradition is being revived again within contemporary parameters. In 2006 the Department has organized a college level Seminar on Modern Approaches to the Thematic Exposition of English Literature with four distinguished speakers. In 2013, deparments of English, Bengali and Sanskrit in collaboration with Swami Dhananjoy Das Kathia Baba Mahavidyalaya, Bhara, Bankura organized a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on‘‘Colonialism, Post- Colonialism, and Beyond’’, held on 27th & 28th September-2013 at Ramanda College, Bishunupur.
