The Department of Commerce, Ramananda College, has a glorious past and is marked as a symbol of quality education in Commerce. The Department has produced many brilliant students during 63 years from its inception. Most of them showed their glorious and brilliant performance in different spheres of the society, specially, in the field of education, administration, business and profession.
The Commerce Department of Ramananda College started its journey since the childhood of the College, especially after the Industrial Revolution, when they were the need for qualified Accountants in the Society to record the transactions in a very scientific way. Probably, in the District of Bankura, it is the pioneer Institution to introduce Commerce Education. At first, due to space problem only I. Com course was introduced with the affiliation from The University of Calcutta in the year 1952 and with the passage of time, B.Com Honours and General course have been introduced.
Initially each academic year was subdivided into three parts, viz. 1st session, 2nd session and 3rd session. From the very beginning to the Puja vacation was termed as 1st session, after Puja vacation to the end of the calendar year was 2nd session and from the very beginning of the next calendar year to the date of examination was 3rd session. The University Syllabus was also subdivided into three parts and distributed among the both full time as well as part time teacher members. The responsibility of each teacher was also being judged in time. But at present the scenario is totally changed with the change of education policy of the existing Government.
Generally, several times in an academic year, the departmental meetings are convened to discuss the various matters regarding distribution of classes to the teaching members, purchase of Library Books, Departmental Examination, Enhancement of the quality of teaching as per requirement of the students, Departmental Seminars, Fresher’s Welcome, Farewell to the outgoing students etc. All the teaching members are most cooperative in solving any Departmental problem after healthy discussion among them. The College administration is also very sympathetic to us to make our efforts a grand success.
At present the department is strong enough with full teaching strength to impart proper education to the students. As per university norms the classes are distributed among the teachers as per their specific interest after fruitful discussion. The college administration provides part-time teachers from time to time after realizing our departmental needs. Only the combined efforts and cooperation of the teachers, students, college administration and the society would be helpful to run the department smoothly with reputation and to achieve our mission positively.
