The department of Nutrition is a comparatively young department in this esteemed college. The department started its journey in the year 2006 as the first ever of its kind to offer the Undergraduate Honours course in Nutrition in the district of Bankura under the University of Burdwan. Since its inception the department has catered to a considerable number of students who after successfully passing the undergraduate curriculum have went on to higher studies in different institutes of eminence within and across the border of this state. Currently the department offers UG Honours (23 seats) and Generic elective courses in Nutrition as permitted by the affiliating university, i.e., Bankura University.
The department is housed at the Bio-Block wing of Ramananda College. It has 2 regular classrooms and 2 laboratories with necessary equipments and shares 1 smart classroom with another department on the block. There is a departmental library with essential books for the students. Also, the stock at the central library is shuffled regularly according to the needs of the syllabus.
The students of the department participate actively in annual health camps and conducts regular survey and project works on the population of the Bishnupur town and surrounding area to assess health and nutritional status. Fresher’s welcome and farewell of the outgoing students, publication of wall magazine, celebration of teacher’s day, students’ seminar, quiz competition etc. constitute the extra-curricular activities carried out by the department.
The teachers of the department follow university syllabus and take the task of teaching with their utmost sincere abilities. The students are eager participants in a unique student-teacher relationship which reflects in the overall good academic performance of the department.

Future plan
The department plans to renovate and upgrade its laboratories according to the need of students and to make it more sophisticated. The department will also try to enrich its departmental library with current updated publications.
The department has been involved in formulating and working with small-scale community health oriented projects as a part of the compulsory project works in the final year study for Honours students. The department is nurturing the idea to extend it in a broader way and to generate a comprehensive database on nutritional health status of the people in rural belt of Bankura particularly in tribal areas.
